Kansas Citians may find out soon how the new Sprint Center arena will look from the outside and from the inside of one of its suites.

During a press conference at the Midland Theater Friday, The Cordish Co. President David Cordish said a model arena suite will be available for viewing in a couple of weeks at Cordish's offices on the 30th floor of the Town Pavilion, 1111 Main St.

Cordish, the Baltimore-based developer of the $850 million Downtown arena district being developed adjacent to the Sprint Center, was recently joined in its downtown Kansas City offices by personnel from Los Angeles-based Anschutz Entertainment Group.

AEG is the city's development partner in the $250 million arena project and also will manage the facility.

Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes said at the press conference that final architectural plans for the arena are expected to be unveiled within a few weeks.

The arena is being designed by a consortium of local architects called the Downtown Arena Design Team, which originally released drawings of a glass-exterior that was likened to that of a spaceship.

Since then, new preliminary drawings have been released of an exterior featuring less glass and a design that has been called "pillowy."
