Power & Light District gets six more tenants

The Cordish Co. announced six more tenants for the Kansas City Power & Light District in Downtown.

The new tenants are McFadden's Sports Saloon, Latteland, GNC, The Fudgery, Polished and Plaza Ford Ideal.

On July 12, two other tenants -- restaurant/lounge Vivino and McFadden's Restaurant and Saloon -- planned to start work that week in their buildings in the eight-block district.

The district originally was scheduled for a big opening in coordination with the completion of Sprint Center arena in October, but city officials were surprised in June to learn that many tenants wouldn't open until February. The district's grand opening has been revised to occur in conjunction with the Big 12 basketball tournament in the spring, Cordish construction director Allen Hicks has said.

The $850 million district was approved for about $500 million in public financing, locally and from the state.

City officials have said the city has money in the bank to cover interest and principal for revenue that won't come in until the district opens.
